Bed bugs can be a frustrating and persistent problem.

Do's

  • Act quickly: The sooner you address the problem, the easier it will be to control.

  • Inspect thoroughly: Check your mattress, box spring, bed frame, and surrounding areas for signs of bed bugs (live bugs, eggs, or shed skins).

  • Wash bedding and clothing: Use hot water (at least 120°F) and dry on high heat to kill bed bugs and eggs. Complete this multiple times per week.

  • Vacuum regularly: This can help remove bed bugs and their eggs from carpets, furniture, and floors.

  • Declutter: Reduce hiding places for bed bugs by removing unnecessary items from the home

  • Seal cracks and crevices: Prevent bed bugs from spreading by sealing any gaps in walls, floors, and furniture.

  • Hire a Pest Control Professional: For any size infestation DIY methods are not 100% effective.

  • Inform landlord: If you live in a rental unit, inform your landlord about the problem to prevent spreading.

Don'ts

  • Don't panic: While bed bugs are annoying, they don't pose a significant health risk.

  • Don’t Sleep somewhere else: Don’t begin sleeping in another room or on the sofa. The bed bugs will follow you!

  • Don't move furniture or bedding around to other areas: This can spread the infestation.

  • Don't use hardware/department store pesticides: This can make the issue worse and spread the bugs to other parts of your home. These products also pose a health risk for the user if used incorrectly.

  • Don't throw away furniture prematurely: Many items can be treated effectively by a pest control professional.

  • Don't neglect the problem: Ignoring bed bugs will only make the infestation worse.

Remember: Patience is key. Bed bug infestations can take time to eliminate completely.
